Boston Celtics edge past Golden State Warriors 92-88(updated)
WASHINGTON, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- The Boston Celtics edged past Golden State Warriors 92-88 for their 14th straight victory on Thursday.
Kyrie Irving had 11 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter, including two free throws that put Boston ahead in the last minute.
Playing his second game since suffering a facial fracture, Irving took off his protective mask in the second quarter. Celtics coach Brad Stevens said: "I asked our trainer if he can officially play without that and the response was, 'Yes, but it's not recommended.'"
Jaylen Brown had 22 points and seven rebounds for Boston, and Al Horford added 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Kevin Durant has 24 points for Golden State and Stephen Curry only had 9 points. The defending champions' 88 points was a season-low.
"It was just one of those nights," Curry said. "We had control of the game despite how bad we all were shooting. We just didn't sustain ourselves defensively."
"We kind of fell out of our rotation in the third quarter," Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. "They were just tougher and smarter than we were tonight."
