Angola unbeaten in group stages at AfroBasket2017
LUANDA, Aug. 24 (XINHUA) -- The Angolan senior women's basketball team ramained unbeaten at the group stages of the FIBA Africa Cup of Nations (AfroBasket2017) after defeating the Central African Republic 96-58 in the Malian city of Bamako on Wednesday.
Clarisse Mpaka amassed 16 points for the team led by coach Jaime Covilha. The Angolan squad established a 46-28 lead at the halftime.
This is the fifth win of Angola, after having already beaten Cameroon (78-56), Mali (68-59), Tunisia (62-55) and Cote d'Ivoire (70-62), thus ensuring the first place of Group A with 10 points.
In the Group B competitions, Nigeria defeated Senegal 58-54 in a highly intense game on Wednesday to top of the group and maintained their unbeaten streak in the competition.
In the quarter-finals, Angola will be up against Mozambique in the Lusophone derby, which will be held on Thursday.
