Durant powers Warriors to 113-91 Game 1 rout of Cavs

WASHINGTON, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Kevin Durant had 38 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in his first NBA Finals as the Golden State beat the Cleveland Cavaliers, 113-91 on Thursday night in Game 1 of the best-of-seven NBA Finals.

"I think the start of the game, we were a little too anxious and we missed some layups, we gave up some open shots. I think we just locked in from the second quarter on," Durant said.

This marks the first time in NBA history the same two teams played in three straight Finals and just the fourth time it has happened in the four major sports leagues. The Warriors were up eight (60-52) at the break before leading by as many as 24 and weren't challenged in the second half.

Stephen Curry scored 28 points with six 3-pointers and 10 assists. James finished with 28 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists. Klay Thompson had a poor shooting night as he went 3 of 16 for six points. Kyrie Irving scored 24 points on 10-of-22 shooting. Kevin Love grabbed 21 rebounds and scored 15 points, while Tristan Thompson was held scoreless and to four boards.

"Give Klay Thompson a ton of credit. Because he's out there fighting over screens, getting hit, trying to contest, trying to rebound, trying to do it all for us defensively," Warriors assistant coach Mike Brown said.

Game 2 in the series is Sunday night back at Oracle Arena.
