Myanmar holds int'l white cane day sports activities

YANGON, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Over 1,758 Myanmar people including blind and visually impaired people participated in the 26th Mayor's Cup, marking the International White Cane Day in Yangon on Sunday.
The event aims to support and promote better awareness for the need of disabled persons, particularly those with visibility impairments.
Participants from 24 schools for the blind from Yangon and across the nation took part in the event which was held in early hours on the day.
The event has been held in Yangon annually since 1992.
According to Myanmar National Association of the Blind, there are about 530 members with visually impaired living in the country.
Myanmar National Association of the Blind is a membership-based-association representing the persons with visually impaired living in Myanmar to World Blind Union.
