University of Glasgow enhances cooperation with Chinese partner

GLASGOW, Britain, July 27 (Xinhua) -- The University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) Student Center was formally launched at the University of Glasgow on Wednesday.

Top-level representatives of both universities, Chinese students and Chinese Consul General in Edinburgh Pan Xinchun participated in the opening ceremony.

Following the establishment of a joint educational institute between the two universities in 2013 in Chengdu, western China, the newly-established student center aims to highlight the partnership, comprising a learning and teaching hub with state of the art IT facilities to support interactive learning, and an informal study area decorated with a Chinese flavor.

Professor Jonathan Cooper, Vice Principal Innovation and Knowledge Exchange at the University of Glasgow termed the move as "an important initiative" in the context of the University's internationalization.

For his part, Professor Zhu Hong, Vice President of UESTC, attributed the success of the partnership to government support, friends' assistance and self endeavor.

The joint educational institute was expected to bring together the best aspects of British and Chinese education systems and student experiences for educational and cultural benefits, as well as economic revenues and job opportunities.

The University of Glasgow also houses Quantic, one of the four quantum technology hubs in Britain, and James Watt Nanofabrication Center, as well as around 2,000 Chinese students.
