Chinese singles shuttlers perform mixed at BWF World Superseries Finals
DUBAI, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shuttler Chen Yufei won Thursday her match in the women's Group of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Dubai World Superseries Finals 2017 against South Korea's Sung Ji Hyun in two sets, while her compatriot He Bingjiao lost against Japan's Akane Yamaguchi in three nail-biting sets.
Women's world number 8 Chen Yufei said after her match which she won 21-16, 21-13 she brought victory home because she made overall less unforced errors. She added that despite her three-set defeat on Wednesday against Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei, "I still feel fit and I am confident for my next encounter here in Dubai."
Ng Long Angus, the men's world number 9, needed three sets to win against Son Wan Ho from South Korea as the Hong Kong shuttler lost the second set 13-21 in Dubai's Hamdan Sports Complex.
China's 20-year-old He Bingjiaolost against Yamaguchi in three sets 14-21, 21-13, 8-21. While she won the second set clearly, but in the third set, He appeared exhausted and suffered from a rising number of unforced errors.
"I struggled in the third set, because it took me a lot of energy to turn the match in the second set, so at the end it wasn't easy for me," said He.
Thailand's world number six Ratchanok Intanon delivered the first sensation of the women's T Group when she defeated world's number one Tai Tzu Ying from Chinese Taipei, winning 21-18 21-17.
"We played often against each other so I knew her style of playing," said Intanon. "I was determined today, I wanted to win this match, really," she added. Tai explained her defeated by saying that her opponent's actions were "more agile today."
The group matches continue on Thursday and on Friday.
The semifinals of BWF Dubai World Superseries Finals are scheduled to take place on Saturday and the finals on Sunday. A total prize money of one million dollars will be distributed.
