Guangxi to host China-ASEAN badminton tourney
NANNING, China, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- The first China-ASEAN mixed team badminton tournament will be held from Oct. 7 to Oct. 8 in Nanning, capital city of South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
As the host city for the 2019 Sudirman Cup, Nanning will try its best to provide wonderful experience for the audiences, said the organizers.
With the participation of six teams from Guangxi and ASEAN countries like Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, the competition will use the Sudirman Cup format. The six teams will be divided into two groups and the top two teams in each group will progress to the knock-out stage.
The best known of the participants is Indonesia's Markis Kido, a gold medalist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Top-seeded Indonesia will play Team Nanning in Group A, and second-seeded Malaysia led by Suhandinata Cup winner Choong Wai Chi will meet a team from Thailand in Group B.
