Top-ranked men's doubles shuttlers Li, Liu suffer early exit from worlds
GLASGOW, Scotland, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shuttlers Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen, world's No. 1 men's doubles, suffered a disappointing early exit from their quest for the world major title as they lost to an Indonesian duo at BWF World Championships here on Wednesday.
The Chinese pair lost to Mohammad Ahsan and Rian Agung Saputro 19-21, 21-18, 21-18 en route to the last 16.
After the two sides shared the first two games, Li and Liu trailed at 10-14 in the decider, before coming back for a 16-all.
However, the tournament's top seeds made several misjudgement and conceded several points in a row. They saved one match point, while failing to muscle their way to last 16 in Glasgow.
"We thought that our opponents would serve quite well, and they did so in the match," said Li.
"After we tied the score at 16 in the decider, the match just went in their way, and we felt much pressure from them," Liu pointed out.
Fellow Chinese pair Huang Kaixiang and Wang Yilyu eased through the round of 32 at 21-9, 21-7 against Belgian duo of Matijs Dierickx and Freek Golinski.
