Day three of Sudirman Cup sees surprises

SYDNEY, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Day three of Badminton's 2017 Sudirman Cup on Australia's picturesque Gold Coast served up few surprises on Tuesday.

In the afternoon session Malaysia demolished Germany 5-0, completely outclassing the Europeans in every sense, and it was a similar story when Vietnam took on Canada.

Although the North Americans worked hard, they simply could not match the precision of the Vietnamese players.

Macao of China also spent the afternoon giving a free lessons on court, beating New Caledonia 5-0 in a ruthless display of efficiency.

In the final grouping of the afternoon, Scotland overcame New Zealand 4-1.

But he most hotly contested groupings of the day got underway with the evening's fixtures between India and Indonesia.

It was a great tussle between the two powerhouses, but India took the honours 4-1.

Home side Australia hit the court with a spring in their step when they faced Austria, smashing the visitors 5-0 and impressing some of the tournament's top seeds.

When Fiji took on Tahiti, it was clear the Gold Coast crowd would be in for an entertaining performance.

Although lacking in tactical nous, the athleticism on display from both sides made the matches highly enjoyable.

Fiji were the eventual winners 4-1.

The last groupings between Singapore and the United States ended in a 5-0 battering, with the Americans overwhelmed in every game.
