Dengue fever infections in Vietnam's Da Nang double in 8 months
HANOI, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Some 4,500 dengue fever cases have been detected in Vietnam's central Da Nang city in the first eight months of this year, nearly doubling the figure during the same period last year, the municipal Preventive Medicine Center said on Thursday.
During the eight-month period, Da Nang Hospital alone received some 1,100 dengue fever patients, up 130 percent. Of the patients, 62 percent are from Da Nang, and the rest from neighboring provinces, including Quang Ngai, Quang Nam and Thua Thien Hue.
Local doctors predicted that the city will see more dengue fever cases in the coming time, especially in November and December.
Vietnam has reported nearly 100,000 dengue fever patients, including 26 fatalities, so far this year, according to the Ministry of Health.
