Guangxi reports one imported dengue case

NANNING, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in south China has reported its first imported dengue case this year, local inspection and quarantine bureau said Wednesday.

A Chinese male passenger was monitored by the infrared detector to have a low fever when entering Guangxi through Pingxiang City late July.

He also had inflamed throat and skin rash - typical symptoms of dengue fever. He had stayed in Hanoi, capital of Vietnam for two months but denied having been bitten by mosquitoes or having any infectious disease.

The man was taken for a blood test at a nearby clinic immediately and was confirmed to be infected with dengue virus early August.

The patient is now receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.

Dengue is a mosquito-borne, potentially fatal disease that mainly affects people in tropical and subtropical regions every summer, causing fever, nausea, vomiting and muscle and joint aches.
