Indonesia to hold 2nd World Culture Forum

JAKARTA, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's resort island of Bali was scheduled to host the 2nd World Culture Forum (WCF) mid this month, to be attended by more than 1,500 delegates from 65 countries.

The Indonesia-initiated international forum was originally intended to seek ways in developing cultures in the world which would eventually useful to further boost people's life quality, world peace, prosperity and conservancy of global civilization.

"This forum would give the chance on how would cultures assist the sustainable development drive," Indonesia's National Education and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy said in a statement released on Wednesday.

The minister added that culture has an underlying role in sustainable development drive as it may act as the propeller and value adding agents to the drive.

He expected that results from the forum would essentially useful in the development of human resources globally.

The international cultural forum, which was initially held in Bali in 2013, would be attended by international top level figures, cultural experts, cultural ministers, regional leaders and representatives of non-government organization (NGO) from several countries.

The United Nations (UN) Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Director General Irina Bukova were scheduled to deliver their remarks through teleconference as keynote speakers in the upcoming event.

The other keynote speakers expected to attend the second WCF were Jordan leader King Abdullah II and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The second WCF was scheduled to be officially opened by Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Oct. 13. The whole activities related to the event would run from Oct. 10 to 14, the organizer said.
